Boodroot (Sanguinaria)

In the first weekend of April, the bloodroot was blooming in large numbers, scattered over the forest floor around the Appalachian Trail near Sky Meadows State Park in Virginia. In the sun, they all opened up, but in the dark or overcast, they mostly close up like small tulips.
