Bark of a crape myrtle

Bark of a crape myrtle
Bark of a crape myrtle. Crape myrtles are one of my favorite summer flowers. This is the bark of a very large crape myrtle in winter. Crape myrtles do very well in the mid-Atlantic and are seen in public and private plantings. The bark has interesting coloration and texture. It has a wide patch of bare wood, covered in algae with bits of lichen.
