Close up of Kwanzan cherry blossoms. I’ve also seen this kind of flower referred to in British literature as candy floss (cotton candy) cherry blossoms. These are double flowering blooms with a rich pink color. They bloom well after the single flowered type for which Washington DC has a famous cherry blossom festival – as is common with most double flowering plant varieties. Kwanzan flowering cherry trees are very popular landscaping focal points in my northern Virginia neighborhood.
