A Netsiligmeot style arctic kayak. Traditionally made from seal skin stretched over a bent wood frame, they were used in caribou hunts until rifles were introduced to arctic North American aboriginal peoples. This kayak was on display at the National Museum of the American Indian. The makers are trying to preserve traditional skills among their people and have introduced nylon to the construction as a way of blending modern with traditional. The kayak is almost a work of art.
