I spotted these yellow and grey to white lichens growing on a rock near Great Falls on a hike in late March. The sulfur yellow color really caught my attention. I suspect this is just a phase in the growth of the lichen, but I did take several photos of it. The light grey lichen in the midst of the yellow is a Xanthoparmelia lichen.
Shot with a Nikon D80 and a 55mm AIS macro lens.

A titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) perched in a blossoming maple tree in early spring. There was a small flock of 4 or 5 tufted titmice, which were flitting from low tree and shrub branches to the ground and back. The tufted titmouse is here perched on a maple branch with its flowers showing. Maples have this characteristic red color when their flower buds swell and pop.
Shot with a Nikon D80 and a 135mm AIS lens in March 2012 at Great Falls Park in Virginia.

Wilson Boulevard in weather that looks like it is about to turn stormy. This view is looking west from Quinn Street, up the hill towards Courthouse and Colonial Village. This is a typical orange line buildup between Rosslyn and Courthouse Stations. Density continues to increase all through the metro corridor past Ballston.

Old stone church with a high pointed roof surmounted by a stone cross. The stained glass window which shows on one side of the altar of St Marys Episcopal Church in Arlington is also seen below the cross. The window frame appears to be of stone as well but seems likely to be wood. Very pretty, Anglican church architecture.
